about me

Marnie with her nephew Taylan, her husband Simon and a Mongolian village girl.

Who am I?
My name is Marnie Hibbert (formerly Kirkness) and I’m a photographer who loves candid, soulful photography and the smile that creeps across someones face when you least expect it.

Where am I?
Melbourne Victoria, Australia.

How did Photobaby begin?
Years ago my friend had her first baby boy. I began taking photos of him growing up using a borrowed 2mb digital camera. By the time he was 6 months old, my friend had suggested numerous times to consider baby photography as a full time job. I had only ever considered photography as my hobby whilst travelling across several continents using my SLR film camera. At the time I was running my Graphic Design Business. After the idea swam around in my mind for months I woke up one morning with the name. PHOTOBABY was born! It has since grown steadily each year with hundreds of clients and a lot of smiles! I love providing families with a fun experience and beautiful memories. To be invited into someones family to capture tender special moments is an honour and I absolutely love following them grow up and even see their new additions as the years go by. To me Photobaby is not a job, it's a passion that I enjoy every day.

What do I do?
Create, design, travel, laugh and photograph constantly.

My mission in life is:
To see more of the world each year and keep learning.

Sayings I love:
”Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

“Never take some one for granted, hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up one day and realizes that you have lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones.”

“We do not remember days, we remember moments.” Cesare Pavese. Italian Novelist (1908 -1950)

“What sort of footprint are you going to leave behind”  Dr Jane Goodall

Don’t be ordinary, be extraordinary.

Countries I’ve travelled 2000-2013

Winner of the Melbourne Open House Series Competition: Russell Place Substation
Review: A series needs to tell a story and take the viewer on a journey. Often photographic series are weak as the images do not fit together cohesively. Marnie has produced a beautiful story of building details that work individually and as a collective. Through abstraction she has provided powerful glimpses of this interior.
